Dating back to 1969
Our club was formed around 44 years ago by four keen modellers, and initially had a series of temporary homes (some better than others!). Then in 1974 we accepted an offer of accommodation at Flight Refuelling Sports and Social Club, which has been our home ever since, though now called Cobham Sports and Social Club since re-naming of the sponsoring company.
We have a large end to end ‘main line’ layout in our clubroom which is continually being updated and improved and has served us well. Our first exhibition layout ‘East Hope’ was started in the late 1980’s and first exibited in 1992. Based on Easton on the Isle of Portland it has been to many shows over the years and was sold in 2012, for use as a private layout. Our current exhibition layout is ‘Cobham Heath’, first shown in 2011 and recently improved ready for the next event.
All of these club projects have been 4mm scale ‘00’ and have given us much enjoyment building and operating, as well as some challenges. Our membership though has wider interests, including ‘0’ and ‘EM’, as well as different periods and railways. We are a small club and meet every Thursday (except the two weeks at Christmas and New Year) between 7.30 and 10.00 pm. Visitors and prospective members are always welcome on these club nights.
